IGU-GFE hold the symposium during the 10th IALE congress

The 10th IALE congress was held on 1st -5th July, 2019 at Milan, Italy. This congress focused on the different aspects of landscape ecology and the challenges of the Anthropocene. Scientists and students from more than 60 countries attended this congress, listening and discussing presentations on twenty broad thematic areas on landscape ecology.

Among the parallel sessions, the IGU commission on Geography for Future Earth (IGU-GFE)  organized the Symposium 19 titled Promoting Ecosystem Services for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This symposium aimed to discuss topics including the global challenge for sustainability, ecosystem services and sustainability, and how to promote ecosystem services for SDGs. Four committee members, Prof. Wenwu Zhao, Prof. Francesco Cherubini, Prof. Luque Sandra, and Prof. Walter Musakwa, attended this symposium. The symposium received 50 abstracts from different countries and more than 30 submissions were selected as oral presentations.

During the one and a half day’s symposium, scientists presented case studies on ecosystem service and SDGs, shared their opinions on how to link ecosystem services and sustainable development goals, and discussed the opportunity, challenges, and directions for topics including ecosystem service, sustainability, landscape, land use changes, and urbanization. This symposium provided a great platform for discussing research progress on ecosystem serves and SDGs, and paved the way for new advancement in the future.
